Why am I so attracted to this person?

In astrology, disproportionate attraction usually points at Venus, Mars or Pluto making a close contact between two charts — the pull is real, and it is not the same thing as compatibility.

The short answer

Attraction that feels out of proportion to how well you know someone is, in astrological terms, almost always a contact between the fast personal planets and either Mars or Pluto. Venus describes what you find attractive. Mars describes what you do about it. Pluto describes intensity that does not respond to reason.

When one person’s Venus sits close to the other person’s Mars, the effect is unusually direct: what one finds beautiful is close to what the other simply is. That is the classic signature, and it is not subtle to experience.

The contacts that produce this feeling

These are the ones astrologers look for first when someone describes a pull they cannot explain:

  • Venus and Mars in close aspect — straightforward physical chemistry, in both directions.
  • Venus and Pluto — attraction with a compulsive edge. Compelling, and worth being honest with yourself about.
  • Moon and Mars — emotional reactivity. Feels like intensity; often is.
  • Sun or Moon with the North Node — the “this feels significant” contact, which people frequently mistake for destiny.
  • Venus or Sun with Neptune — you may be responding to a very appealing idea of the person rather than the person.

Why strong attraction is not the same as compatibility

This is the part most astrology content skips. Attraction and compatibility are measured by different things in a chart, and they routinely disagree. Squares and oppositions — the tense aspects — generate more charge than trines do. That means the person you cannot stop thinking about may be producing that feeling precisely because something between you does not resolve.

That is not an argument against the relationship. It is an argument for noticing which one you are experiencing, because a strong pull will keep a badly matched pair together well past the point where either of them is enjoying it.

What astrology cannot tell you

It cannot tell you whether they feel the same way, whether it will last, or whether you should act on it. Attraction that is inconvenient is extremely common and does not require a cosmic explanation — proximity, timing, and a face that resembles someone from your past do most of the work.

What a chart comparison can do is describe the shape of the pull, which sometimes makes it easier to decide what to do with it.
